Where Vectors Collide: Determinants of Coexistance or Exclusion in Invasive Mosquitoes


Dr. Phil Lounibos is a research professor in the Entomology and Nematology Department at the University of Florida. He’s been at the Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory in Vero Beach, Florida since 1977.

Dr. Lounibos Has been a mosquito researcher since 1967 while an undergraduate at Notre Dame and while pursuing his PhD at Harvard University. He held a post-doctoral position in Kenya in the mid-1970s where he tested early genetic control methods for Aedes aegypti. While there, he worked on a number of ecological projects involving Kenyan container mosquitoes.

At the Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory Dr. Lounibos has worked on a broad variety of mosquito species and problems in Florida and internationally (especially in South America). As a faculty member at the University of Florida Dr. Lounibos has mentored 15-20 graduate students and postdocs.
